You will need a braided nylon leader, but I have never heard of pike taking a fly, you wuold probably do better with a deep fished lure!

Yeah Braided nylon. Wouuld you not be better using a Plug lure or deadbait?
One of the bailiffs at a mid-Kent syndicate regularly fishes for pike using big flies, he uses a light(15 – 20lb)wire trace which casts really well, you shouldn’t not use a wire trace really, as the pike will bite through everything else. With that, just use a normal fly line as you would trout fishing, with a 6 -7 foot lenght of mono between the fly line and the trace wire. Use the larger flies that are used for salmon, as well as the proper ones developed for the pike. Good luck
my grandad always said cat gut, how does that work???
A 1 foot piece of 40 lb flourocarbon similar to a tarpon leader.
