I fished first time for yellow perch. It could be the last day before the river would freezes. If I don’t make it today it will be February I can try for yellow perch (YP) fishing. I have been planning for yellow perch fishing for 3 years. I had to fish fish, so I went. I caught about 20 YP range 8-12 inches. Now I know what kinds of lures I need to bring next time.

I went to the Susquehanna Flats last year as well! I feel like we are on the same page in scoping out fishing spots.. Wish I had tried for YP instead of stripers up there, as the striper run up there was not nearly as good as in previous years from what I hear. I went east out of the Havre de Grace Yacht Club marina. I had a difficult time getting back in as the wind picked up and I fought the current. I had to paddle for a solid 90 minutes non-stop until land started to break up the wind..
Nice Catches! Could you make make list of a few baits/lures that you use to catch yellow perch. I’d like to get out this year and try to catch some but I’m unsure as to where to go and what baits to use. I’m a complete newbe… Thanks

Yes, he is my kind of fisherman. We enjoy how we caught the fish, not what we caught. It is all about journey.

@comeonfish01 I’ve never seen anyone catch YP in Bushwood, and I want to learn more about the ways to fish, than I do about catching them. I know my father had methods he showed my brothers, and he always did very well. He loved fishing and would make up his own special lures to catch fish. I think he loved just being on the water the most, but it was all about the challenge for him too. If he had a good challenging day, he was happy. He often talked to the FISH, and let them know he was BOSS.
I do a lot of very cold weather fishing and sounds like you had too many socks on which constricted your blood from flowing and or made your feet sweat . I use one pair of thick wool socks and foot warmers top and bottom of my toes since they are always the first to get cold. Thanks for the info, I do a lot of spring/summer fishing in the river and flats area but have never tried the YP thing. Think I am going to do something new instead of ice fishing this weekend.

My friend and I were talking about YP fishing in Bushwood. We have no clue about YP in Bushwood. Have you heard anything about YP? My friend and I challenge in fishing. We don’t care much about catching part. We car more in how we catch.
