With the weather calming and the rivers much more cooperative I decided to take a short trip up river from the farm. I loaded my 12 foot aluminum canoe and started paddling till I found a great location about 1.5 miles into the Rice City Pond area. There is an abundant fishery here, most with an average of 8-12 pounds with some reaching into the 30′s..though admittedly those are of course very rare. High teens and low 20′s can be found around with a bit of luck and time spent. This stretch of river is one of my favorite areas to fish with little to no pressure from other anglers. I managed a good number of fish, though for time constraints I didn’t include film of the 3-5 pound carp.
@BrianWarner1996 Yeah..a hat multi-tool. Great for night sessions or parking your car!
It looks like a garage door opener on his hat toward the end. I know it was a lamp.
@sleepyfisherman10 Thanks bud…was a smaller fish session but great fun all around!
nice session
@BlackstoneCarp Our excellent government tried that with the Trout in the midland rivers. The trout(here for hundreds of years already), decemated the indigenous minnow populations. So they put a poison in that destroys the oxygen. The river they tried it on of course all the trout died….So did what was left of the minnows!! I’ve never heard of this being tried again. They also netted a lot of carp out a of a big and popular dam here, it was a failure because there are just too man carp!!
@Jbay2608 …With these other fish our government has actually attempted to poison whole stretches of rivers etc to kill them off..of course to no real avail other then adding more problems to our waterways…meh I won’t preach too much but isn’t the ignorance of elected officials grand?
So in a nutshell as far as most carp go, we put them here then decided to hate them. A small and growing group of anglers respects them, but the majority believes they are destroying our waterways.
@Jbay2608 Yeah I could prolly use some..and may either buy or make my own soon enough.
Well our Government doesn’t want to get rid of carp, most of our population considers them a trash fish. In a nutshell the Government put them here in the late 1800′s but they quickly became easy scapegoats for our rivers problems. Our government does nothing to get rid of them, nor does it do anything to protect them sadly, At least as far as the common carp goes. Big head/asian/silver carp are another story
You should look at getting some swingers, they help picking up the drop backs! It’s nice to see some carp videos from other places than Europe, is it true that the U.S government wants to take out all the Carp from your waters??
@mississippibushcraft My tackle remains the same most times of the year. A really simple set up is a 1-3 ounce running/inline lead ( depending on current and silt depth) with a size 6 hook on a basic hair rig. With this I’ll use some sweet corn or a boilie ( I like strawberry or vanilla flavors in the spring/summer). IN new waters though sweet corn is an easy to use and fairly effective particle to have on hand. I’ll work on doing some rig videos in the next few.
@fur8963 The one in this video is a Fox Eclipse rod pod. Hard to get things here in the states but you can check out Wacker Bait and Tackle who has a nice assortment. There are also some stateside companies that make their own like Scorpion Tackle for instance.
who makes your rod holder? i have been looking for them for ever!
what rig do you use for spring i can get hook sinkers lines of pretty much any kind.what do you use line types what test what kind of rig hair wire hair what do you use as a rig and what kind of bait do you recommend for carp in the spring or early summer and where can i buy it or what do you put in it i have been trying to caught some but i can not i live in ms and i found a oxbow that has tons of carp i took one cast in a 6 ft cast net and i pulled up 5 i put them back
